Silvermine Nature Reserve        CAPE TOWN'S PENINSULA ATTRACTIONS

Hiking Trails: Table Mountain National Park

Sivermine Nature Reserve lies within South Africa's Table Mountain National Park and includes the Cape Peninsula mountain range extending from Constantiaberg to Kalk Bay. This is a popular spot with relatively short and easy hiking trails leading to panoramic viewpoints south and east across the peninsula and False Bay.

The Hoerikwaggo Trail traverses Silvermine Reserve. The complete trail allows hikers to take a spectacular four-night, five-day 60 mile (97 Km) hike from Cape Town's Table Mountain all the way to Cape Point at the southern tip of the Cape Peninsula..

Day visitors to Silvermine enjoy local hikes, picnics, mountain biking, birdwatching and the mountain fynbos flora.

One of our recommended routes to explore the peninsula en-route to Cape Point cuts through this scenic part of the peninsula mountains.

Hoerikwaggo Hiking Trail - Silvermine

Hoerikwaggo is a Khoi-San word meaning "mountain in the sea". The trail provides a hiking experience that is out of this world, with almost limitless opportunities for superb photography and video. Silvermine Nature Reserve hosts one of the four overnight camps along this guided trail.

Hiking northbound from Silvermine tented camp, the guided trail traverses the mountains to Orangekloof Tented Camp and ultimately across Table Mountain to the cableway station. The first day's hike out of Silvermine provides stunning views of Chapman's Peak Drive and Hout Bay.

Hiking southbound from Silvermine, the first day's hike is to a tented camp situated on the beachfront next to the Slangkop lighthouse, providing superb views over Hout Bay, Chapman's Peak Drive and Noordhoek beach. The hike drops to sea level at Noorhoek and follows the beach and shoreline all the way to the lighthouse.
