Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park was formed by combining South Africa’s Kalahari Gemsbok Park and Botswana’s Gemsbok National Park, making it a 3.7 million hectare conservation area. It is a Malaria Free wildlife park and is home to lion, leopard, cheetah, gemsbok, eland, other antelope and smaller mammals, reptiles and birds.
Kgalagadi is a self drive destination but note that the road conditions are generally not suited to sedan vehicles. The red sand dunes, sparse vegetation and the dry Nossob and Auob riverbeds provide ideal wildlife photographic opportunities. Kgalagadi is also popular with birders, especially those interested in birds of prey.
